In 1995, Epic Megagames published a number of shareware computerized board games designed by Twisted Pine Software. Branded "Brainiacs" series after a movie of the same name, the games did not do well commercially, and today remain some of Epic's most obscure releases. Which is a pity, because Epic Hoppers, Epic Connect, and Epic Checkers offer excellent play value. Programmed for Windows, all three games boast multiple difficulty levels, hint and undo options, and nice graphics. If you are looking for traditional parlor games to while away coffee breaks at work, check them out.
The rules of Connect: "Try to build a row of four checkers while keeping your opponent from doing the same. Sounds easy, but it's not. The vertical strategy creates a unique challenge. You must think in a whole new way to block your opponent's moves. Performing a move in your turn is made easy because Connect will highlight all of your possible moves. When you move the mouse cursor over a highlight or a button at the top of a column the cursor will change from a pointer to a pointing hand. The pointing hand cursor is Connect's way of telling you that you can perform a move at this location."
