Larry Laffer is back in this installment of the popular Leisure Suit Larry series. In this episode, Larry goes on a television show called "Stallions" and 'wins' a free stay at the La Costa Lotta hotel and resort.
Once he's found his room, the object is to help Larry to try to "score" with the various ladies in the hotel. This is often best accomplished by helping them out of tough situations. Perhaps Larry will help a hotel worker get rid of the cellulite on her legs, or fix the running machine in the gym.
Once he's helped out around the resort, Larry may decide to go for the "ultimate pleasure" - a night with Shamara, the spiritual goddess of the resort! But beware! If Larry isn't careful, he may get beaten up by the tough weightlifter, or worse!
Shape Up or Slip Out! is the fifth game in Al Lowe's Leisure Suit Larry series. All the events from the previous games are forgotten. Larry is once again single, and again his goal is to capture the interest of various ladies. By sheer coincidence, Larry finds himself on a TV Game Show called "Stallions". He wins a weekend at the Spa Resort, La Costa Lotta. Naturally, there are some beautiful women in the spa who are just dreaming about such a wonderful, handsome man as Larry! Uh... or is it really so? It is your goal to find out! Using your wit, you should solve all the puzzles and satisfy the wishes of all the ladies!
This instalment focuses more on conversations with women and on puzzles than on the storyline. The entire game is spent at La Costa Lotta. There are plenty of traditional inventory-based puzzles to solve in the game. You can die, but are allowed to try again every time that happens, without the need to restore. This is also the first Larry with SVGA graphics, and voice-overs in CD version.
Larry is at it again. While he is cruising along Muscle Beach and exercising (his pick-up skills), a stretch limo pulls up behind him. Inside, a beautiful blonde lady wants comfort, and Larry is not the kind of guy who would keep a lady waiting. So our god of love is on the move again - or so he thinks. The lady needs a guy to fill the empty seat on the popular dating show Stallions! Unfortunately for Larry, he loses first prize and makes a complete fool of himself on national TV ... but not all is lost. Larry wins second prize: a paid stay at a fashionable hotel with plenty of nice-looking girls. And so Larry is back to doing what he does best, pleasing the female population.
To me, the graphics in this game are very disappointing, as they are a step backward from LSL5. The cartoon graphics have been replaced by something in between that and realism. This fails completely, for me, and costs the game a rating point. Apart from this, the game is still good fun and keeps the Larry story going!
