Set in September 1944, Airborne Assault: Highway to the Reich is based on General Montgomery's World War II plan to drop 30,000 Allied troops behind enemy lines in Germany. The mission is to seize a number of strategic locations, including numerous bridges that cross the Rhine River. Players have the ability to issue commands to computer-controlled subordinates who will carry out their orders, or they may take control of each individual unit and execute the attacks themselves.
Along with leading parachute regiments, users will command armored divisions and infantry into the German heartland in an effort to end the war before Christmas. Highway to the Reich features many of the major battles of Operation Market Garden, including Nijmegen, Eindhoven, and Neerpelt. Battles can be fought against the computer or against friends via the Internet or over a LAN. Airborne Assault: Highway to the Reich also allows users to create their own maps, edit scenarios, and create their own scenarios with the included map maker and scenario utilities.
