Flight Sim Toolkit is a feature-rich package of tools with which you can create your own custom aircraft, worlds, and challenging flight sim scenarios.A Windows based set of tools allows you to save your creations as stand-alone DOS games. These tools include a world editor with which to create custom landscapes, a shape editor that allows the creation of objects (e.g., trees, cars, houses) that can be placed on the landscape, a color editor that allows control over the game's palette, a cockpit editor with which to develop the in-cockpit graphics, and a model editor with which to develop flight models for aircraft.
FST includes a fully working, flight simulation game called "Top Gun". Aside from being a game that can be played in itself, players can opt to use the tools in FST to alter elements of Top Gun into a whole new gaming experience.
Ever wanted to make your flight simulator? Well, this program has everything you need. You can create theatres of operations, model units, etc... There are several games built around this, the better being Tornado Squadron and WW2. Graphics can either be standard VGA or 640x480 SVGA, with sound support for Sound Blaster and compatibles. An aircraft's characteristics are defined in an included editor, but the flight model is somewhat relaxed. This is a good program if you want to mess around with it, but more serious simmers should look for more flexible programs.
Simis plans to release FST2 by the end of this year. As for now, X-Plane is the best you can get, and you can try it for free. There's no combat involved, but the flight modelling is top notch and the aircraft design tool is very easy to use.
