A voodoo doll has turned King Angoulafre mad. You control a team of three Goblins - Oups, Ignatius and Asgard (Hooter, Dwayne, and BoBo in the US release), who must find four magic components to track down Niak the Wizard, who is the only one who can put things right. They all have different skills - one can cast powerful but erratic spells, another can collect and use objects, and the last can hit things. You switch between them to solve puzzles in this point-and-click game.

Action icons are activated at the bottom of the screen. The game takes in 22 landscapes, each of which has puzzles which must be cleared. Your characters have limited energy, which can be sapped by traps.

Everything in this world has to have a beginning. In 1992, a game called Gobliiins was released. Back then, no one expected that after more than fifteen years this series would still be alive and include three sequels. How did this happen?

Gobliiins is an adventure game. Your goal in this game is to find the wizard who can cure the goblin king's insanity. As in many games in this genre, you accomplish this goal by solving puzzles. Like the title says, your characters are goblins, three of them to be exact. It's the same amount as the number of I's in the title. Let me introduce them: Oups, the smart one; Ignatius, the magician; and Asgard, the strongman. As you have probably noticed, each one of them has some abilities, and of course each one of these abilities can be used to solve puzzles. The first goblin is not only smart enough to use the things he can find, but he's also the only one who has a pocket to take something with him.

All of these little men are often smiling, and you should be smiling too. Even if you do something wrong, you'll probably have a smile on your face, because many actions in this game - even if they take your precious energy - look silly. The game is packed with slapstick humor. Many times during the game I've tried to do something wrong to see what would happen to the poor goblins and how angry they would be after another failure. In addition to these actions, all of the graphics, even if they are meant to be scary, look funny and adorable. All of these graphical elements were created by Pierre Gilhodes.

However, the game is not only about laughing, but also about puzzles, and these can be frustrating. First off, you don't know what you should do to get past the current screen. And some of the solutions are really weird or at least not obvious. You can try to do this or that, finding out what is useable and what is not, and you can also try to punch or enchant things with magic, but there is a limit to the bad decisions you can make. Here we come to what is the second disadvantage, in my opinion: The Energy Bar. Every time you make a mistake it gets shorter. Do I have to tell you what will happen if it disappears? Two words starting with G and O. But don't worry yet. You can always start from the beginning of the current screen. After completing each stage you'll receive a pre-generated code, which will allow you to start from the beginning of a screen with the exact amount of energy as you had upon the completion of the previous one. Yes, it's important to make as few mistakes as possible, because once you lose energy there are not many places where you can replenish it, and the amount is retained from one level to the next.

Some of the technical stuff was revealed during the review, but I'll sum it up. Each stage is a single and very colorful screen. There is no way back - you can only advance. The graphics are not only cheerful, but also clear, and it's quite easy to see what is what. You control the game with a mouse, but if you don't have one or it just got broken, you can also use the keyboard.

In conclusion, this game is really a lot of fun, despite being difficult. In my opinion, even if you don't like this kind of game, grab a solution and try it out. The laughs you'll get during the gameplay are rewarding. I guarantee it - you won't forget the looks of the adorable Gobliiins!

Part of the Goblins series

Truly one of the greatest games ever! The King of the Goblins is tortured via a voodoo-doll. He sends his best men, three goblins each with it's own ability, to end this. So you're now out with your three cute little fellas. One is able to use the things you'll find on your way (you can carry only one at a time), the second one is more the warrior-type - his ability is to hit (and he hits ev'rything you tell him!), number three in your team is the magician. His magic works different on each thing, you let him perform it on. The key to success is good teamwork between the three. Gobliiins is an Adventure/Puzzle-Crossover. You got to reach one special goal in each of the screens, but that doesn't mean, they're not related.

Often the reason, why you've got to do something in one screen shows up one or two screens later. It may not seem so everytimes, but in general every puzzle is logical and just dependent on using everything you find plus the abilities of your goblins. Very good game for anyone, who likes a funny one that makes you think. It has been kind of legendary back then and it still should be now! One of the best games on my site - definitely a MUST-CHECKOUT!
