Avencast: Rise of the Mage is an action-heavy RPG in the Diablo mold that combines traditional swords-and-sorcery themes with mild adventure puzzles and classic beat-em-up combat. Players take control of a young mage apprentice who returns from his off-campus final exam to discover the Academy of Avencast being attacked by demonic monsters. And thus the adventure begins, with gamers unleashing more than 50 combat moves and magical spells, earning experience points to level up and earn new spells, and looting the bodies of fallen foes for gold, armor, and weapons. Branching development paths and scores of unique weapons, spells, and pieces of armor offer players a variety of character customization options, while boss battles and more than 30 grotesque monsters, each with different combat strategies, are designed to keep the action fresh.
