This is a remake of a really popular game of the early ninetees, called Wings of Fury. The new version brings it back in new glory, with enhanced graphics and sounds.
The story is well known: you pilot an airplane for the US Air force in the middle of Japan. Your missions are to kill everything that moves. Even though the missions are hard and enemies are everywhere, the game has a lot to offer in terms of gameplay. Controls are really easy once you get the hang of them, and you can choose between three different types of special weapons at your aircraft-carrier. These are Rockets (nice for shooting down planes or blowing up bunkers), Bombs (for lightly shielded ground targets) and Torpedoes (for sinking ships). In order to complete your mission you will have to choose the correct type of weapon for each mission.
A thing that will push aways many of potential fans of this game is the landing. It is probably the hardest part in the game. However, once you master it, it will be a piece of cake. The trick is to approach the ship slowly with your gear down, and once you're above it, push the UP arrow so that your plane slowly descends and (hopefully) clenches to the carrier's hook. The important thing is that your plane's nose should be lightly tilted upwards. Give it a few tries and you'll get a hang of it.
This game was originally an arcade game, but it's huge number of fans quickly made Broderbund release the game for both Dos and Amiga. Even today it is still one of the most popular flying arcade games ever made, and this remake proves it.
The graphics in the remake are just awesome. They are very smooth, easy on the eyes and you'll love them the second you see them. The developer claims that it will run over 100fps even on a 500Mhz machine so I guess it is coded well. Sounds are satisfactory, nothing more, nothing less. Gameplay and "feel" of the original game have been preserved flawlessly so if you loved the original, the remake will be just as loveable!
