Winter Games gives you the opportunity to compete in seven different events from the 1988 Winter Olympics held at Calgary, Alberta. The game allows you to compete in one or all events. You may also practice each event.

The game allows up to 8 players to compete against one another. Each player is allowed to enter their own name and compete on behalf of one of 18 different countries. Medals are awarded at the end of each event.

The seven events featured in the game are the Biathlon (a mixture of cross-country skiing and target shooting), Speed Skating, Ski Jumping, Bobsled, Figure Skating, Freestyle Skating, and Hot Dog Aerials. The Speed Skating event allows two player head-to-head competition.

The game begins with an opening ceremony. The gold medal winner's national anthem is played during the award ceremonies. High scoring performances are saved on disk as world records.

Another in the series of Epyx Olympic sports games. Compete in many different sporting events like: Ski Jump, Hot Dog, Biathlon, Bobsled, Free Skating, Figure Skating and more.

You can enjoy the winter sports in the warmth of your home and even invite some friends over and compete in six different Winter Olympic events (although there are seven). Each player gets to choose the country to represent (15 countries or Epyx) and then you can select to compete in all events, compete in some events, compete in one event, or practice an event (strangely enough each option allows you to do just what it says).

The first event is Hot Dog. Basically you need to jump and perform some aerial aerobics while in air. Every player has 3 tries and all are judged by an international ensemble of judges. Be careful with the landing, or else your face may freeze off.

The second event is my favorite. You get to compete in Biathlon. As with many racing events of the older days you need to push left and right repeatedly, but here it's not how fast you push it, but how well you catch the rhythm. Also you get to fire four rounds at the targets. You need to push down and up to load the gun and then you're ready to shoot. You can't aim, but you need to wait for the bull's eye to be over the right place.

For the third event you need to race once again. This time it's Speed Skating. Again you need to catch the rhythm and beat the opponent. It's the only event where you can compete head to head.

The fourth event is unfortunately not very fun. It's Figure Skating. And what's worse, the sixth event is basically the same Free Skating. The only difference between the two is that you have 1 minute while Figure Skating and 2 minutes while Free Skating (and there seem to be a few things more you can do while figure skating). I strongly suggest you use the numeric keys, or even better skip the two events all together.

The fifth event is Ski Jump. You need to jump off the bridge and then watch the little guy in the top right corner. He needs to be calm, parallel to the skies (just in the right position) and then you need to land. You'll master it after a few tries. But once you learn how to land, you need to learn how to prolong your jumps. Quite challenging but also quite fun.

And the last event is Bobsled. There's not much to explain here. It's probably the closes thing to an adrenalin event here. You get to steer a bobsled down the track and you must make sure you catch the curve just right. If you're too fast, you may fall and if you're too low you will loose time. It's driving on the edge!

All in all I think this is a perfect game to start off the winter season (especially because this season we will have Olympic Games). Enjoy!

This cousin to Summer Games 2 doesn't play as well, but is still fun in its own right, with Epyx' hallmark graphics and fun arcade-ish gameplay. Too bad most events are too similar to each other that tournament play is not as interesting as it could be. Still, if you like Summer Games, give this one a try.
