The first game of the series to use the Sierra point-and-click interface in lieu of the parser-driven method, Leisure Suit Larry 5: Passionate Patti Does a Little Undercover Work again has you controlling both Larry and Patti, each with separate storylines. The points-for-task are scaled back to a mere 1,000, with roughly a quarter of them assigned to Patti.
In keeping with the series history, the fifth chapter (actually fourth, since "Leisure Suit Larry 4" was mysteriously skipped in the annals of publishing) centers on "parental control" material, aka, lewd and lascivious innuendo and adult behavior (if one can mistake Larry's behavior as adult!). Larry works for the PornProdOffice in Los Angeles and is given an assignment to videotape his experiences with three finalists in the Sexiest Woman in America contest (the producer figures that if the women will bed Larry, the "dorkiest" man alive, they must be sexy!). To accomplish his task, Larry travels to Atlantic City, Miami and New York City.
Meanwhile, Patti, miffed at being stiffed by her piano bar club manager, accepts an undercover assignment for the FBI to discover who's behind the corruption in the entertainment industry. Patti's journeys take her to Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and Baltimore, with the adventure neatly tied up at an awards dinner at the White House. Passionate Patti Does a Little Undercover Work! is the fourth game in Al Lowe's Leisure Suit Larry series. Protagonist Larry Laffer fell off a boat during a cruise and sustained amnesia, forgetting how he and Patti got separated, how Larry got a job in LA, how Patti got a job with the FBI, and what happened in (the never released) Larry 4. As in the third game, two different characters with their own story are pursued. The goal is to bring Larry and Patti together while you fulfil Patti's undercover work.
Passionate Patti Does a Little Undercover Work takes over where LSL4: The Case of the Missing Floppies ended. We find Larry at his workplace doing lousy jobs for a big TV show called America's Sexiest Home Videos. Larry is still a bit dizzy from his adventures in LSL4 and does not remember anything from the episode. While he is thinking about how he got to this place, his thoughts are interrupted by his boss, who wants coffee! Larry, still dizzy, manages to spill the entire cup of coffee on his boss, but instead of being fired, he gets a new job - a job that includes travel and girls. Larry is back again!
LSL5 follows in the footsteps of King's Quest 5 and Space Quest 4 and becomes the first Larry game to be played by mouse control only. The graphics have also improved and taken on a cartoon form, enhancing the humour in the game and creating a really nice atmosphere. The graphics can be compared to those of Day of The Tentacle - distorted and humorous. To be honest, the only Larry game that has better graphics than this one is LSL7: Love for Sail.
