Up to 32 players can take on a mix of intense first-person shooting and tactical real-time strategy as they join two warring factions battling for control of a post-apocalyptic 2049 in Nuclear Dawn. One player on each squad assumes the role of Commander, using an overhead viewpoint to deploy troops, place structures, expand territory, implement new technologies, and collect research points to supply weapons and aid to teammates. The remaining squad of up to 15 gamers spreads across four different character classes to engage in the actual first-person combat.
The Empire and Consortium factions have unique structures, technological upgrades, and weapons, but both sides make use of Assault, Exo, Support, and Stealth troops. Battles take place on six maps that are set within the war-torn shells of metropolises like London, New York, Tokyo, and Dubai. Players can earn achievements and up to 60 rank upgrades, unlocking extended weapon load outs and "gizmos" to customize their soldiers. Nuclear Dawn also includes a built-in software development kit so creative users can design their own custom maps and missions.
