Golden Axe is a variant on the traditional beat-'em-up with a swords-and-sorcery theme instead of urban brawling. Three heroes vow revenge on evil warlord Death Adder for killing their loved ones and abducting the king and his daughter. Each character possesses distinct weapons, special moves, and magic abilities. Choose from barbarian Ax Battler, Amazon warrior Tyris Flare, or dwarf Gilius Thunderhead. Engage waves of skeletons, knights, giants, and other creatures while advancing through five side-scrolling locales. Some enemies ride one of three dragon types that can be mounted by your hero and used as an extra form of attack. Collect and save potions to unleash progressively powerful tiers of fire, lightning, or earth magic, depending on your character. Battle the computer alone or team-up with a friend for cooperative play on the same keyboard.

Sega's classic arcade beat-'em-up game, Golden Axe puts in the shoes of one of three heroes, each with his own reason for trying to overthrow the evil rule of Death-Adder, who - along with his forces of darkness - kidnapped and imprisoned the King and his daughter and stole the legendary Golden Axe.

This is a horizontal fighting game, where you basically take one of the three characters (a warrior, a dwarf or an amazon) and bash everything which stands between you and Death Adder himself.

Golden Axe was originally an arcade game produced by Sega. This PC version has an extended storyline since the original version was pretty short. Although single player mode is fun by itself, I would recommend the multiplayer mode (no networks, the old-fashioned way, 2 people squeezed over a single keyboard :)

Besides the story mode you can now also play in a Duel mode. Here you must kill a few enemies each time. They just keep coming and the longer you can resist, the stronger the enemies will be. This is really cool because you don't need to play the whole story again, but rather instantly experience a non stop adrenaline rush.

Golden Axe is one of those games you won't be bored of after you complete it dozens of times. It's very simple and straight-forward. You get to choose a character (dwarf, woman, man), each one having a unique weapon, special moves and magic abilities. (Which look really great)

You get to fight against the evil dead who want to take control over the world. The design of the evil dead is really great and you will see them in all sizes, ranging from your own size all the way to giants which fill up the entire screen.

Besides the normal fight moves and the magic power you can also take control of dragons. You first need to steal those animals from the enemy, but once you got one under control, you will feel like Hannibal. (However, he used Elephants, not Dragons)

This game is just a true classic in the action/fight genre, and should really be checked everyone who loves action games.

For all who think this game is too hard for them, you can give yourself more health in the options menu.

Rescue the King, his daughter and a golden axe whom where stolen by Death Adder. Concluding: Kill everything on you way with this plafform beat 'em up game.

Decent conversion of SEGA's smash hit arcade beat'em up Golden Axe... decent for PC standards of that time, that is. At least the VGA graphics are faithful although gameplay is far inferior to the original.... "Inferior" is a relative sense, though-- if you have never played the arcade original (or SEGA Genesis version), you won't be disappointed with Golden Axe's addictive arcade fun despite a few cases of "sticky controls" problem.

In Golden Axe you can choose to play as one of three characters, with each having their own characteristics. Gillius Thunderhead has great attack power but little magic, Axe Battler the Barbarian has average attack and magic skill, and Tyrus Flare has great magical power but weaker weapon attacks. Each character has standard attack moves where successive hits on an opponent generate a "combo" of several different attacks. Your characters also have a rear attack, a charging attack, a throw attack, and a jumping attack. Each character has a magic meter of various length which can be powered up by collecting "Magic Pots" dropped by elves that you smack with your sword at various points in the game. At various points in the game you encounter enemies riding on "Bizarrians" such as Dragons. You can knock the enemy from the beast and ride it yourself, which gives you access to the beast's attacks until you are yourself knocked from its back by an enemy.

Overall, Golden Axe is fun in a 'classic' old-school sort of way. The setting, enemy and character design, music, pace, and gameplay are all very good and help to elevate it above its 'standard' gameplay and a banal fantasy plot. If you have played other versions of the game, you might be a little disappointed, though.

A nice Hack 'n Slay - you choose your character from either a Warrior, an amazon or a dwarf. Now you set off to defeat Death Adder who murdered half of your relatives. Use your weapon or magic against those who try to prevent you from your revenge. Once you get familiar with the controls this one is quite enjoyable - you need to react quick, but the fights are fair - more or less, you just need to watch that you don't get between two enemies - that usually ends bad. ;)

A good game to kill your agressions, well done while I wouldn't regard this as a Smash-Hit. You can still see that this one was first designed for consoles (Master System & Sega Mega Drive).
